An Interview with Cameron Spector, First Graduate of the European Film Business and Law LL.M. | MBA Program
Cameron Spector has achieved a significant milestone as the first MBA graduate of the
European Film Business and Law LL.M. | MBA program to complete his studies in the standard time frame of 4 semesters. The 24-year-old producer-director, who works across the US and Europe, shares his experiences, challenges, and future plans in this exclusive interview.
Can you tell us a little about yourself and your background before joining the European Film Business and Law LL.M. | MBA program?
Hi, I’m Cameron Spector, 24 years old. I completed my Bachelor's degree here in Potsdam, though I am originally from the US. I'm a producer-director working both in the US and Europe, and I just completed my MBA at the Erich Pommer Institute.
Can you share any personal anecdotes or experiences that were particularly memorable during your time in the program? And can you point to a particular class or a particular topic that has stood out to you the most?
The most memorable part of this journey was the time we spent together as a group of students. We became a close-knit family, forming friendships and supporting each other on various projects. One of my favorite units was with Juliane Schulze, where we had to prepare a pitch for a company. It was incredibly insightful and interesting, and I learned a lot from that experience.
What were the biggest challenges you faced during your studies, and how did you overcome them?
One of the biggest challenges was the predominantly online nature of the program. It's something you know going in, but you don’t really realize how isolating it can feel. To combat this, we interacted socially through group chats and talked about our projects. The Berlinale meet-ups and the two week-long sessions where we got to be together in person were also incredibly helpful in overcoming the sense of isolation.
How do you plan to apply what you have learned in your future career?
In my future career, I plan to start and grow my own production company, focusing on transatlantic projects. This program has provided valuable insights into creating and maintaining a company, as well as understanding the European film market and business.
What advice would you give to future students considering this program?
I would advise future students to fully engage with everything the program offers, connect with everyone, and make the most of the opportunities. There are three key ways to learn in this program: through the lectures, through your own research, and through the connections you make. The connections are incredibly powerful; you meet amazing students from all over Europe and the world, each bringing their own insights and approaches. Learning from them and collaborating on projects is one of the best ways to get the most out of this program.
The deadline for the 3rd year of the program is quickly approaching on July 31. Don't miss this exciting opportunity to advance your career in the European film industry.
